Baseball’s Winter Meetings wrapped up with most of the attention centered on Juan Soto and his 765+ million dollar contract with the Mets. I’ll have more to say about this and other deals that were talked about or took place, but I wanted to give you a quick summary of what the Rangers accomplished.
First of all, Chris Young took care of the team’s main objective by bringing back pitching leader Nathan Eovaldi on a three year deal. This was important because of what he delivers on the mound and in the clubhouse. He is like an extra coach with his advice and support to other hurlers. By the way, Eovaldi is from Alvin Texas. That’s a pretty good pedigree, right Nolan?
An important part of returning to contention is putting together a strong bullpen. The first addition for 2025 is change up specialist Jacob Webb. He is a leverage pitcher with a lifetime ERA of 2.98.
The only trade so far brought in power hitting corner infielder and DH Jake Burger. He has averaged over 30 home runs the last two years. Only Seager and Garcia have equaled that total for the Rangers. I’m partial to a sweet and spicy bacon burger from Whataburger, but if Jake will hit 30+ for Texas he will be my favorite burger! There will be more moves in the future. Stay tuned! That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?
