Watch for my baseball predictions over the next few days. I’ll discuss each division and reveal what my crystal ball is showing. In the meantime, here are a few random thoughts:

The Cowboys traded for a new backup quarterback, second year player Joe Milton, who played in one game for the Patriots last year. Milton can throw an orange 100 yards. That’s impressive, but how many times do you need to throw an orange in a football game? Maybe Dallas is planning to sign Zeke Elliott again. When he does that silly “feed me” gesture, Joe can toss him some fruit.

J T Toppin is returning to Texas Tech for another year of basketball. The Big 12 MVP has a new NIL deal for a reported 3 million dollars. Wow. Pretty good money for a college player! I hope that he is taking a Finance class as he furthers his education.

There are three outstanding young players named Jackson in Major League Baseball. Holliday with the Orioles, Chourio with the Brewers, and Merrill with the Padres - all destined for a great career if they stay healthy. As we speak there are scouts looking for their own Jackson. The Rangers don’t have a player with Jackson as a first name, but their closer in the early portion of the season has been veteran Luke Jackson.

I was hoping the Rangers would sign starting pitcher Walker Buehler as a free agent, but Boston stepped in and gave him a contract worth 21+ million. I guess that big a contract outweighs being able to refer to Walker, Texas Ranger.

When Joey Cora played for Seattle he always seemed to torment the Rangers. I always thought he looked like a lemur. The latest Texas thorn in the flesh is an Astro named Mauricio Dubon. To me, he resembles an antelope called a Dik-dik. Look at the pictures and see if you agree.

One more comment on Luka Doncic and the worst trade in basketball history. Luka played his first game in Dallas since he was given to LA this week. ( He managed to score a measly 45 points in the game). At a press conference, Mavs coach Jason Kidd said he thought it was “pretty cool” that the trade was being compared to Babe Ruth being sold to the Yankees. Pretty cool? Apparently J Kidd doesn’t realize how that worked out for the Red Sox. Ask any Boston fan about the Curse of the Bambino and the 86 year drought the team endured before they won a championship. I hope the Mavericks don’t have to wait over 80 years for a title after dumping the Slovenian superstar. Call it the Curse of the Sloveno.

I’m polishing the crystal ball now. Expect a dose of baseball forecasts coming your way !

That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?
