It’s time for some quick comments about recent events in the wide world of sports.

Derek Shelton was fired by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was held accountable for the team’s losing record, ignoring the fact that the stingy ownership of the franchise refuses to spend money or make trades to improve. Blaming Shelton is comparable to sending a hitter to the plate without a bat, then being mad that he struck out!

Rafael Devers has a 313 million dollar contract with the Boston Red Sox. Early this season he pouted because Boston signed Alex Bergman, who is an actual third baseman, as opposed to a hitter who just occupies a position. After a while Devers “reluctantly agreed” to move to designated hitter, then proceeded to strike out 15 times in 19 at bats. (Side note: In 1995 the great Tony Gwynn struck out 15 times… in 585 at bats) Devers has adjusted to his new role as DH since his terrible beginning, but was recently in the news again for announcing he would absolutely not move to first base after Triston Casas was lost for the season due to injury. Boston infielders are secretly glad that Rafael will not be playing that position and butchering their throws, but for that salary Devers should be willing to sell peanuts between innings.

Has anyone else noticed that David Adelman , interim coach of the Denver Nuggets, looks a little like Alfred E. Newman at a press conference? What, me worry?

The Cowboys have managed to stay in the news by signing “talented but troubling” George Pickens. Here we go again. As similar wide receiver Terrell Owens wold say, “Get your popcorn”.

Only the Chiefs have as many scheduled prime time television appearances for the upcoming season as Dallas. Imagine how many times the Cowboys would be on TV if they won! They might have their own network! 24/7 Jerry Jones press conferences!

And now….. Trivia!

In his entire career, Nolan Ryan only gave up one walk off home run. Do you knew who hit it?

I’ll give you a few days to think about it and respond.

That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?
