Bet that headline got your attention. It is definitely a teaser. The Baseball Writers Association members have sent in their ballots, but the results won’t be released until Tuesday evening, and I’m writing this on Sunday. Plus you’re probably wondering what Texas players could be getting elected.

Well, I’m referring to the possibility of Carlos Beltran and Andrew Jones being elected, and you might remember both of these candidates played one year for our Texas Rangers. If they happen to get in Cooperstown, they would join Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Goose Gossage, Bert Blyleven, Vlad Guerrero, and questionable member Harold Baines as HOF members who played for the Rangers but are better known for their work with other teams, not to mention Ted Williams and Nellie Fox, who managed and coached the 1972 Texas team.

Beltran and Jones probably have the best chance of being elected this year. Beltran has already been close to receiving the required 75% of votes, moving up each year. He has statistics and qualifications that are close to indisputable. The main thing that has held back many voters is Beltran’s role in the Houston trash can sign stealing cheating scandal when he finished his playing career with the Astros, I believe there will be enough voters who have decided he has been “punished “ enough and he will get in. By the way, as a point of reference, Carlo Beltran’s statistics are almost identical to Andre Dawson’s career numbers.

There also seems to be momentum building for Andruw Jones. Willie Mays said that Jones was the best center fielder he ever saw. That’s a pretty impressive recommendation. Jones also had over 400 homers and almost 1300 rbi’s. Good enough for me. I hope he gets in.

Unfortunately, Coot is not allowed to vote in this election, but if I had a ballot, it would look like this:

Carlos Beltran , Andrew Jones, Bobby Abreu, David Wright

Felix Hernandez, Andy Pettite, Mark Buehrle

I am prepared to explain why these would get my vote and others would not if you’re interested in more. I will have further comments after the results are released. For now, I will just say that’s one man’s opinion. What’s yours?

It Got Worse

Remember a little over a week ago when I wrote that Texas had a chance to have a great road trip against the three teams with the worst record in baseball? They didn’t. Lost the series to the Astros,

Here we go. As I write this, the Rangers are on the road again. (Sing it Willie) This continues the early season schedule trend, with more travel and fewer games at home. This trip feels different, wi

This is not a post about Star Wars; it’s a look at where our Rangers are with a fourth of the season in the books. As I write this the record stands at 19 wins and 21 losses. That record is certainl
