You didn’t really think that Jerry Jones was going to let the last half of 2024 pass without doing something to enhance his chances to win the Stupid General Manager award for this year, did you? The winner of this two man race will be determined after year end. I am tempted to go ahead and give it to Jerry now, but there are still almost four months left. Nico might make a last ditch effort and trade Cooper Flagg for DeAndre Jordan because of his playoff experience.

Otherwise, we’ll get the trophy engraved in January. Jerry, as always, will be glad to pose for a picture with the award, which will be a container filled with hot air. He will give a 30 minute acceptance speech which will leave onlookers saying “What did that mean?”He will be so proud of the trophy that he will put it in a special place at the Star. There is plenty of room there, since there aren’t any trophies for winning a Super Bowl since before the turn of the century. As we have learned, Jerry Jones firmly believes that any publicity - positive or negative - is good for the franchise’s value. And that value just keeps climbing.

It really wasn’t a total surprise that the team’s best player was traded after the disagreement turned personal. It was other circumstances about the deal that shifted it from business to bizarre. Jerry’s “press conference “ was a feeble attempt at justification, much like Nico Harrison’s ridiculous remarks after the Luka trade. Let’s look at some of the similarities in their words and actions.

Nico traded Luka to a hated rival - the Lakers

Jerry traded Micah to a hated rival - the Packers

Nico said the Mavs had considered a Luka trade for some time.

Jerry said Dallas had considered this “strategy change” for several weeks,

Nico kept the trade a secret, meaning there was no opportunity to get other teams involved and get a better deal.

Jerry could have worked on a trade earlier, when teams were still making their own plans and had an inventory of draft picks available.

Nico said “defense wins championships “and the team would be better and more equipped to “win now”.

Jerry said that trading Parsons would help the Cowboys become better at stopping the run.

Nico refused to allow questions.

Jerry allowed questions but never answered them.

But Jerry took it to another level to leave Nico in the dust. He said that one day we will look back and call this another “Herschel trade.” Herschel Walker’s best days were behind him when the Cowboys traded him to Minnesota for five players and six draft picks, which were used to select players like Emmitt Smith and Darren Woodson. By the way, Jimmie Johnson engineered those deals, not Jerry. For Parsons, who is only 26 years old , the Cowboys got one player and two picks which will likely be late first round picks. Dallas may be able to pick up another Taco Charlton!

Finally, during negotiations, Jerry refused to say Parsons’ agent’s name, then in his ridiculous press conference he called Parsons Michael instead of Micah. Does he just have trouble remembering names? Or is he arrogant and rude? Or is this early signs of dementia? After all, Jerry Jones is older than notable geezers Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Stay tuned for future developments. I’ll keep the SGM trophy safe until June.

That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?
