Three Up - Three Down

Last time I posted our Rangers had concluded their first road trip with a 4-2 record. They were preparing to welcome Cincinnati and Seattle for the first home stand. After starting out so well they were excited to be home, and optimistic they could continue to win. Then the Reds came in and won three games. The fans began the early season overreaction. Then Texas won the next three games over the Mariners, and the mood shifted again. In those six games, the Rangers scored 12 runs and allowed 12 runs. Win some…lose some. As Wash said, “ That’s the way baseball go!”

I really wish Texas had taken at least one from the Reds, but it was so good to sweep Seattle. In each of the last two years the Rangers won 3 and lost 13 against the Mariners. This year they’ve already won three. Let’s hope this starts a new trend. The record is now 7-5, good for first in the division. But it’s only 12 games in, so let’s not get carried away.

As I write this, Texas is preparing to play a series with the evil LA Dodgers to start a new road trip. That will be a test. And then it doesn’t get easier. For the next few weeks the Rangers have a very difficult schedule. Tough opponents and more time on the road than at home. Then things begin to even out. Theoretically, if the team can do well in the first half of the season, they can really win big in the second half. Sounds good. We’ll see how it goes. I will be happy to share my opinions, because…….

That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?

Faux Opening Day

Usually at this time I wish everyone Happy New Year since it’s the start of baseball season. This year it feels a little different, because the powers that be are choosing to have “Opening Night” only

Come On Baby Finish What You Started

I’m pretty sure that Van Halen wasn’t talking about baseball, but the phrase applies to the state of starting pitching in Major League Baseball today. Finishing what they started is almost nonexistent
