It seems that whenever you place a takeout request now, the person who takes your order asks “What’s a good name?” They don’t ask your name - they ask for a good name. So I don’t really know how to respond. Is my name good enough or are they expecting something better? So I give different answers. In December, I tell them it’s Ebeneezer just to see if they’re paying attention, or sometimes maybe Rudolph or Nicholas. The rest of the year I just tell them it’s Coot. I don’t know if that’s a good name, but it works for me.

The baseball team based in Sacramento is looking for a good name. They were formerly The Oakland Athletics. Before that, the Kansas City A’s, and before that, the Philadelphia Athletics. Now they’ve decided to take up residence in Las Vegas. While they wait for a stadium to be built there, they are playing their home games in a minor league park in Sacramento which they share with the San Francisco Giants AAA team. It’s a strange arrangement, but what do you expect from a franchise that’s once had a mule for a mascot and wears an elephant logo on their sleeve?

So in the meantime they are making preparations for the next move and have applied for trademark protection for the names Las Vegas A’s and Las Vegas Athletics. Their petition was denied by the US Patent office, who decided that the name was too generic and could cause confusion. (Maybe they were thinking about the time John Kruk was scolded by a lady who said he wasn’t acting like an athlete. He responded that he wasn’t an athlete - he was a baseball player) Anyway, for now, the franchise is trying to decide. …What’s a Good Name? I’m suggesting that they use the name Coot. I don’t know if that’s a good name, but it works for me!

That’s one man’s opinion - what’s yours?
